MEDIA RELEASE

COMMUNITY BROADCASTING TARGETED BY TONY ABBOTT

The Abbott Government’s Commission of Audit has targeted the community broadcasting sector, telling the Government to abolish the Community Broadcasting Program.

Abolishing the Community Broadcasting Program would see community radio and television stations across Australia cease operating.

Community broadcasting provides a vitally important independent voice to over five million people every week and is an essential service in rural and regional Australia, in our ethnic communities and in our cities.

The Community Broadcasting Program is an investment in our community and in positive social outcomes.

Malcolm Turnbull must guarantee that the Community Broadcasting Program will not be cut in the upcoming Budget.

The Opposition is also calling on National Party Members and Senators to show some guts and stand up to Tony Abbott and his razor gang. If Tony Abbott cuts the Community Broadcasting Program it will hurt regional communities across Australia.
