There are 417 good reasons for the State Government to deliver on its promise to improve access at Pendle Hill and Toongabbie train stations.
That’s how many people have signed the Federal Member for Greenway, Michelle Rowland’s petition calling on the State Government to deliver on their promise to upgrade the stations.
Ms Rowland today presented the petitions to Toongabbie State MP, Nathan Rees at Pendle Hill station.
“The message to the NSW Government is clear – the community wants better access to these stations,” Ms Rowland said.
“Over 400 local residents have signed my petition because they know that these stations need better access for pregnant women, for families with prams, for people in wheelchairs and for elderly people.”
Mr Rees said the State Government had let the residents of Toongabbie and Pendle Hill down by not improving access to the stations.
“There are lots more residents, especially elderly residents, in Pendle Hill than there were only five short years ago. That is why Labor awarded a contract for the design of the upgrade in 2011,” Mr Rees said.
“Alarmingly, this contract hasn’t been progressed since Barry O’Farrell came to power. This is in spite of the Transport Minister promising an easy access upgrade for Pendle Hill when she campaigned at the last election.
“She said at the time in relation to Pendle Hill station: “People … are unable to get employment because they can’t access public transport services… Public transport needs to be accessible to all and this means having alternative to the stairs””.
“Minister Berejiklian needs to stop playing politics with Easy Access upgrades, and simply undertake to deliver on her promise of the last election. The residents of Pendle Hill deserve some honesty from the Minister on this matter.”
