ABBOTT REFUSES TO CONDEMN RACIST CURRICULUM REVIEWER

17 October 2014

Prime Minister Tony Abbott today laughed off the racist remarks of National Curriculum Reviewer, Professor Barry Spurr.

Speaking in Sydney today, Tony Abbott said:

JOURNALIST: Were you offended by the language Barry Spurr used in his emails?

ABBOTT: Well look, I saw a report on page two of the Tele, I haven't had much of a chance to read it yet and I'm not easily upset, I've got to say so I'll study it closely.

[ABBOTT – PRESS CONFERENCE – 17 OCTOBER 2014]

It is not about whether Tony Abbott was offended by these disgusting remarks, but about the impact they have on Australia's diverse multicultural community.

It’s bad enough that Professor Spurr was given a job for the Abbott Government, but it’s appalling that the Prime Minister has refused point blank to condemn these racist remarks.

He should show some leadership and say there is no place in Australia for this disgraceful language.

Racism is never okay and should be called out at the highest levels.
