Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, Julie Bishop has done what Tony Abbott could not on the divisive language coming from some members of the Coalition.
Speaking to ABC Radio National today:
“I’m not confronted by clothing, Australia is a very open and free and tolerant society and we don’t discriminate on the basis of religious or cultural clothing. People are free to wear what they like. Some may be offended by it, some may be confronted by it but in Australia we have a choice and that’s the kind of choice and that’s the kind of society that we fight to defend. ”
JULIE BISHOP – ABC RN INTERVIEW – 2 OCTOBER 2014
This is in stark contrast with the weak words from the Prime Minister who has failed to put an end to the divisive rhetoric.
Now, more than ever, Australia’s political leaders need to foster community harmony – every politician has a responsibility to promote inclusion and respect. We need the whole nation pulling together.
The Prime Minister could learn something from his Deputy and start showing leadership when it comes to social cohesion.
