GEORGE SAVVIDES AM APPOINTED SBS CHAIRPERSON

 
Labor welcomes the appointment of George Savvides AM as the new Chairperson of the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS).
 
Mr Savvides is well credentialed and brings extensive business acumen and community experience to the role. He also brings continuity, having served as SBS Deputy Chair since 2017 and Acting Chair since June 2020.
 
The SBS is Australia’s most diverse broadcaster, a key cultural institution and is uniquely placed to foster inclusion and cohesion in our diverse multicultural society.
 
The role of SBS is of increasing importance given recent warnings of the growing threat of right wing extremism and misinformation-fuelled racist attacks in Australia.
