Michelle Rowland MP, Federal Member for Greenway, has thanked local residents for their overwhelming response to the campaign to share a little dignity with women in need.
“My office was recently a collection point for Share the Dignity's 'It's in the Bag' campaign, which asks people to fill a handbag they no longer use with items like deodorant, soap and sanitary items and donate it to help women who are homeless or in crisis over the Christmas period,” Ms Rowland said.
“Over the last two weeks we have received well over 200 bags of ‘luxury’ items that we usually take for granted. A truly overwhelming response.
“I am always blown away by the generosity of our local community, and this campaign is no exception. Many of the notes left with the donations come from the heart and are so inspiring.
“A lot of messages were reminders to stay strong and hang in there, while one simply said: ‘From one teenage girl to another!’
“Thank you so much to everyone who donated. Your contribution will help women struggling at this time of year also have a happy Christmas,” Ms Rowland said.
