MEDIA RELEASE - SUPPORT GROWS FOR LABOR’S CALL FOR NBN SERVICE LEVELS REFORM - 22 FEBRUARY 2018

22 February 2018

Following calls by Labor and the NBN Joint Standing Committee for improved wholesale NBN service levels, the ACCC announced in November 2017 that it would commence a long overdue public inquiry.

Now into its fifth year in office, the Turnbull Government continues to turn a blind eye to the poor experience of Australians on the NBN.

It’s bad enough that their NBN is second-rate. The experience gets worse when technicians don’t turn up for multiple appointments.

Malcolm Turnbull’s personal lack of leadership has permitted NBNCo to operate with impunity – and this needs to change.

The NBN needs to become a true wholesale-network operator, not a public relations spin machine.

Instead of spending money on Google ad words and unnecessary marketing campaigns, NBN should have been investing in delivering better service levels.

The recent endorsement of the ACCC Chairman adds to a growing chorus of voices arguing for improvement to wholesale service levels:

  • The NBN Joint Parliamentary Standing Committee
  • Retail Service Providers
  • ACCAN
  • ACCC
  • Consumers

Labor remains the only party that is committed to placing consumers at the core of its policy agenda, and willing to back that up with action.
