TELSTRA STEPS UP LEADERSHIP ON CLIMATE CHANGE
 

Labor welcomes the leadership being shown by Telstra on climate change, following its announcement of three important commitments to reduce emissions across the company over the coming decade.
 
The targets announced by Andy Penn include Telstra becoming carbon neutral by end of 2020, enabling renewable energy equivalent to 100 per cent of its consumption by 2025, and reducing emissions by at least 50 per cent by 2030.
 
These announcements follow Telstra committing in December 2019 to achieving net zero GHG emissions by 2050 in line with the Paris Agreement.
 
What Telstra is showing — along with many other leading Australian businesses —  is that investment in renewables is not only good for the community and jobs, but it’s also good for business.

Scott Morrison now finds himself further out of step with Australian business, other governments and the community.
 
He is locked in a reckless and extreme position because of the stranglehold the hard-right of the Coalition has on climate policy.

Labor will continue to advocate for strong and sensible action on climate change because this will lead to more jobs, higher wages and lower energy bills.
