Another ticking time bomb left by Malcolm Turnbull in his time as Communications Minister has exploded.
As Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, delivered a crumbling second-rate NBN and savage cuts to the ABC and SBS.
Reports today reveal it was Malcolm Turnbull who made the decision to appoint former Liberal-National Party backroom operator Bruce McIver to the board of Australia Post before he cut down Tony Abbott.
Santa might decide who has been naughty and who has been nice in the Liberal Party but it is the elves that give out the toys.
And there is no more loyal Elf to Malcolm Turnbull than Mitch Fifield, the Communications Minister.
Fifield yesterday announced that Mr McIver, a man best known for backroom deals in the murky waters of the Queensland Liberal-National Party, would take up a director’s position on the Australia Post board, along with a $90,000 salary.
Santa Claus Turnbull and Elf Fifield should immediately explain the selection process for this appointment, who else was considered, and whether Mr McIver’s role in blocking the defection of Ian Macfarlane to the National Party was a consideration before his appointment.
They must also explain why this decision is being announced three days before Christmas when there have been vacancies on the Australia Post Board since August.
Australia Post is a respected national service that should not be dragged into the mud by political appointments of this kind under the cover of the festive season.
