Family day care is an important form of childcare that provides flexible and accessible care for children, in the home of the family day care educator.

Family day care is the fastest growing form of early childhood. In Greenway there are scores of privately-run family day care centres in addition to those operated by our local councils.

The Abbott Government has cut $157 million in funding from the Community Support Program which subsidises family day care providers to deliver services in areas of demand.

Despite the Abbott Government promising just months ago that the cuts and changes to the program would only impact new providers, they have now broken their promise with the announcement that existing providers will be forced to re-apply for funding.

These cuts by the Abbott Government will force these small business providers to either close their service or increase the fees that they charge parents. Either way, these cuts are bad news and will hurt our community.
