A Shorten Labor Government will invest up to $7 million to establish a dedicated facility in Blacktown to provide aged care services to the Coptic Community. 

After six years of cuts and chaos, Scott Morrison and the Liberals continue to neglect Australia’s migrant and multicultural communities.  

We need real change – because more of the same isn’t good enough. 

Labor’s investment will mean older Copts living in New South Wales will receive the care and support they need and deserve, providing peace of mind for their families.

Since the 1960s, the Coptic community has called Australia home, making an invaluable contribution to the development and growth of New South Wales and Australia in every way imaginable. 

Today there are more than 100,000 Copts living in Australia – the third largest Coptic community outside Egypt, with 70,000 living in Sydney.   

Labor knows it’s important that aged care is available for Australia's culturally and linguistically diverse communities.  

A range of studies have shown that older citizens living with dementia are more likely to revert to their mother tongue. 

That’s why Labor is proud to invest in this facility to ensure older Coptic Australians are cared for by staff with their language and cultural knowledge. 

This announcement is part of Federal Labor’s plan to invest in a range of culturally appropriate aged care centres across the nation.  

Labor can pay for these important community projects – without the Liberals’ cuts to schools and hospitals – because of our reform decisions to make multinationals pay their fair share and close tax loopholes used by the top end of town.
