This week, Michelle Rowland MP rose to speak on the 2017-18 Budget in Parliament and what it means for residents of Greenway.  

Michelle Rowland took the opportunity to recognise Sonia Grima and the ‘Skate Park for Riverstone’ group in Parliament for their efforts to secure $400,000 of federal funding for the construction of a skate park.

After supporting their campaign last year, Ms Rowland said it was pleasing to see the Government honour the commitment to funding the project.

 “I was extremely pleased to be able to support the campaign being undertaken by Sonia Grima and her fellow Skate Park for Riverstone members,” Ms Rowland said.

“It was very pleasing to see that Minister Fiona Nash has said that she is prepared and is working towards delivering a $400,000 grant to enable this to go ahead,” Ms Rowland said.

“I pay tribute to Sonia Grima and her team. I want to assure them that I am doing everything possible as their Local Member to ensure that this gets delivered, and I am very prepared to work with the Federal Government, and of course Blacktown Council, to make that happen,” Ms Rowland said. 

Ms Rowland said that, in general terms, this year’s Budget has been a ‘nothing Budget’. There is very little in this Budget for the residents of Greenway or for the future of our growing region.

“In my electorate of Greenway, I have barely heard a whimper from my constituents about this budget,” Ms Rowland said.

Of the feedback that has been received, the majority has been concern from local parents about the cuts Malcolm Turnbull has made to education funding.

“The only feedback that I have had on this budget is outrage from my local community about the cuts to schools and the fact that this is a budget that completely ignores the needs of middle- and working-class Australia”, Ms Rowland said.
