Michelle Rowland MP, Member for Greenway, has leant her support to the Australian bid for the 2023 Women’s World Cup and has caught up with local Matilda’s star Kyah Simon, who grew up in Quakers Hill.   

Kyah has represented her country playing football at the 2015 World Cup and her journey began locally as an 8 year old junior at Quakers Hill Junior Soccer Club.

From there, Kyah began representing Australia. She made her national debut aged 16 and went on to score goals for the Matilda’s at the 2015 World Cup in Canada.

Michelle Rowland met with Kyah and members of the Matilda’s team in Parliament this week, pledging her support for the Australian bid for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

“Local sport is the heart of the community, and it is pleasing to see the national interest in women’s sport growing”, Ms Rowland said.

“It is great to see that locals from our community like Kyah Simon, who grew up in Quakers Hill, representing Australia on the national and world stage”, Ms Rowland said.  

“The Women’s Football World Cup is a great opportunity for Australia to showcase its homemade sporting talent and I am proud to be supporting Australia’s bid to host it in 2023”, Ms Rowland said.

“Women’s football is a wonderful sport and it’s pleasing to see local women like Kyah Simon inspiring young athletes to achieve their sporting dreams”, Ms Rowland said.
