$1,507,162 FOR BLACKTOWN COUNCIL THANKS TO FEDERAL LABOR

23 January 2013

“This is a win for Blacktown and demonstrates how important the Federal Government’s partnership with local government is,” Ms Rowland said.

“Good community infrastructure will cater for our growing community and make it a better place to live.

“This funding can be used to build and renew community infrastructure like sporting facilities, libraries, pools, playgrounds and essential community services such as child care facilities.

“Importantly it will go towards shovel-ready projects that will allow Blacktown Council to generate new economic activity and jobs, while delivering infrastructure now and for the future.”

Mr Husic hopes this additional funding will cause Liberal Councillors to reconsider cutting back on local services.

“Blacktown Council faces significant challenges providing essential services in our growth centres but these shouldn’t be funded at the expense of existing communities,” Mr Husic said.

“I urge Council to reopen Mt Druitt Swimming Pool and restore the Pensioner Rate Rebate following this cash injection and a similar commitment from the NSW Government.”

This new funding comes on top of the Federal Government’s $7 million investment in Blacktown’s roads over the period 2009-2014.
