Request an Anniversary Message
Messages are available to Australian citizens and permanent residents celebrating a significant birthday or wedding anniversary.
Anniversary messages are personal messages of congratulations from:
- the Prime Minister
- the Governor-General
- His Majesty The King.
Messages are available to Australian citizens and permanent residents celebrating a significant birthday or wedding anniversary.
Significant anniversaries
Messages can be requested for the following occasions:
Message from the Prime Minister
- 50th wedding anniversary or any year thereafter
- 90th birthday or any year thereafter
Message from the Governor-General
- 50th wedding anniversary or any year thereafter
- 100th birthday or any year thereafter
Message from The King
- 60th, 65th and 70th wedding anniversary then every year thereafter
- 100th and 105th birthday then every year thereafter
Messages from The King for previous (or past) anniversaries are not provided. Please submit a request for the next occasion. For example:
- If a message was not requested for a couple's 60th wedding anniversary, then you can submit a request for one anniversary from their 61st to 64th anniversary.
- If a message was not requested for an individual's 100th birthday, then you can submit a request for one birthday from their 101st to 104th birthday.
A request must be submitted for every occasion. Messages are not arranged automatically.
Supporting documentation
Supporting documentation must be provided when submitting a message request. This is to verify the wedding anniversary or birthday details. The supporting documentation can include the following:
- marriage certificate (for wedding anniversaries)
- birth certificate (for birthdays)
- passport including an expired passport (for birthdays)
- driver’s licence including an expired driver’s licence (for birthdays)
- proof of age card or similar documentation (for birthdays)
- statutory declaration from any person with the relevant knowledge, declaring:
- wedding anniversaries - the full names and full date of marriage of the couple, or
- birthdays - the full name and full date of birth of the individual.
Statutory declaration forms are available at any post office, or online from the Attorney-General's Department.
If submitting your request by post, please provide copies of supporting documentation. Please do not provide original documents.
