Michelle Rowland MP, Federal Member for Greenway, is encouraging young locals who want to compete for NSW or Australia to apply for a grant under the Local Sporting Champions program.
“This program from the Australian Sports Commission is targeted at young people aged 12-18 who are dedicated to their sport and dream of playing at the highest level,” Ms Rowland said.
“Successful applicants could receive a grant to help with the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when competing, coaching or officiating in their chosen sport at the State or National level.
“I see so many talented young people playing sport across our local area every weekend. They shouldn’t miss out on competing at elite level just because they can’t afford a new uniform, or to travel a long way to get to the game.
“If you’re committed to excellence in your chosen sport then send in an application to the Local Sporting Champions program. We all might get to see you win an Olympic gold medal or run out onto the SCG in the baggy green because of it,” Ms Rowland said.
The latest round of the program is taking applications until 28 February. You can learn more about eligibility for the program and apply at:
