MEDIA RELEASE - 'IT'S IN THE BAG' - COLLECTING SPARE HANDBAGS FOR WOMEN IN NEED - 3 NOVEMBER 2017

03 November 2017

Michelle Rowland MP, Federal Member for Greenway, is getting on board as a collection point for spare handbags and personal sanitary items this November as part of the ‘It’s in the Bag’ initiative.

‘It’s in the Bag’ is a Share the Dignity project which collects donations of spare handbags and distributes them with personal sanitary items to women in need.

Share the Dignity began in 2015 and is a campaign run across Australia to collect personal sanitary items for women experiencing hardship and fleeing family violence.

Michelle Rowland’s office in Seven Hills is again a drop off point for the ‘It’s in the Bag’ throughout November, and will be accepting donations of spare handbags and women’s sanitary items.

“I urge local residents to join the ‘It’s in the Bag’ initiative again this November to help support women who are doing it tough in our community, and thank everyone who has supported the drive in the past", Michelle Rowland said.

“Particularly as Christmas draws near, we are reminded of the importance of kindness and charity, and donations to ‘It’s in the Bag’ directly help provide basic necessities to women in need over the festive season,” Ms Rowland said.

“I am always encouraged and humbled by the generosity and community spirit shown by local residents of all ages and backgrounds who open their hearts to those in need,” Ms Rowland said.

For more information please contact Michelle Rowland’s office on 9671 4780 and to drop off any donations, including spare handbags, sanitary items, pads and tampons, please visit Michelle Rowland’s office at 230 Prospect Highway, Seven Hills.

The collection drive will run until 1 December 2017.
