MEDIA RELEASE - MICHELLE ROWLAND KEEPS UP THE FIGHT FOR SCHOFIELDS STATION PARKING - 15 JUNE 2017

15 June 2017

Michelle Rowland MP, Member for Greenway, is keeping the pressure on the State Government to fix the parking nightmare at Schofields Station, taking the issue to the airwaves with Ben Fordham on 2GB and into the pages of The Daily Telegraph.

Michelle highlighted in an article the Daily Telegraph the real struggles that locals are facing every morning trying to find a parking spot. The State Government has not planned anywhere near enough commuter car parking to match the growth occurring in Sydney’s Northwest.

Michelle also spoke on-air to Ben Fordham on 2GB about the chronic lack of commuter parking and the quality of life impacts that this has on the local residents.

Michelle noted that the commuter parking issues extend to almost every station within the electorate of Greenway, including the ongoing problems with parking around Quakers Hill Station.

“It is one of the single biggest issues from people in my area … I have seen how quick the station carparks fill up in the morning,” Ms Rowland said.

“We know that it is important to make public transport easier to use if you want to get more cars off the road. But this is a massive issue which goes to the quality of life of many of my local residents, and when you have to park literally in the next suburb and walk for the length that you describe, it really is a disincentive to use public transport,” Ms Rowland said.

“We've got 200,000 new homes going into the region. When you calculate how many people that is going to need to cater for and how many people will need to commute, that is a completely inadequate amount that's being planned,” Ms Rowland said.
