MEDIA RELEASE - OVERWHELMING RESPONSE TO 'IT'S IN THE BAG' - 5 NOVEMBER 2017

05 December 2017

Michelle Rowland MP, Federal Member for Greenway, has thanked local residents for their wonderful generosity in supporting the Share the Dignity ‘It’s in the Bag’ initiative.

Hundreds of bags full to the brim with toiletries were donated from local residents to the drive which ran throughout November.

‘It’s in the Bag’ is a Share the Dignity project which collects donations of spare handbags and distributes them with personal sanitary items to women in need.

“Throughout November, I had scores of local residents coming into my electorate office in Seven Hills and donating handbags they no longer used or that had sat unused in cupboards. These were accompanied by donations of new soaps, shampoos, hairbrushes, toothpaste and toothbrushes,” Member for Greenway, Michelle Rowland MP said.

“Several local community groups, ranging from religious congregations to swimming clubs, coordinated members to take part in the initiative.

“Particularly as Christmas draws near, we are reminded of the importance of kindness and charity and these donations will go help to support women in need in our community.

“I am humbled by the generosity and community spirit shown by local residents of all ages and backgrounds who have opened their hearts to those in need and helped in a very practical way,” Ms Rowland said.
