Speaking in the House of Representatives, Ms Rowland MP recently wished Western Sydney’s Sikh, Hindu and Jain communities a happy and prosperous Diwali.
“The glow of the diya across homes and businesses gives pause for reflection on the year that’s passed and an opportunity to look forward to the future”.
“Diwali has become a core part of my community’s cultural fabric”, Ms Rowland said.
Diwali celebrates the victory of good over evil, knowledge over prejudice and love over hate. It promotes mutual respect and self-reflection.
Ms Rowland described these as “enduring Australian values”.
Ms Rowland joined with Blacktown’s BAPS community at the Swaminarayan Temple on Sunday to celebrate Diwali.
“Diwali is one of my favourite festivals of the year. The food, colours and energetic atmosphere creates a buzz in our community during the countdown to the end of the year”.
“I hope you have a happy and safe Diwali”, Ms Rowland said.
